The ability to easily have access to an unlimited amount of music and recordings in the classroom through the internet and CDs has changed music education immensely.

  1. As a music major and someone in whose life music has been a huge part, this is definitely one of the most important technological advances to me. I remember my first portable music device was a walkman with the double sided cassettes. Then it upgraded to a portable CD player and it could be played in the car through a cassette that plugged into the headphone jack. Then I got my first mp3 player and it held a whopping 8 songs. Then I got my ipod eventually that holds over 10,000 songs. Now everything is available on the internet and since our phones have internet, its always available everywhere. It was annoying having to either carry cds around with you or only be able to hold a couple songs. Now that we can hold so many more songs on our devices, they're like mass storage devices where you can hold your whole library. Also, with everything on your computer, its portable and very organized. you jut type to search instead of looking through CDs. You'll always have easy access to whatever reference you many need.I have a couple thousand songs on my computer and couldn't imagine having to keep track of all of those CDs.

  2. Heather, music education has definitely changed in many ways with the new technological advances we now have. It is quite useful in the classroom when a teacher can play different recordings for their students on how sound ought to be produced. Students will remember the pieces/songs played because it is something that sticks in their brain. Now with YouTube and everything else on the internet, we have the world at our finger tips. We can demonstrate so many musical elements to our students with the click of a button. How exciting it is to know that we can have this music on us at all times. The music education that we teach will hopefully be able to inspire our students to become better musicians with the help of the new musical technology.
